London Moves: Moving Advice
Moving home is one of the most stressful events in anyone´s life. At London Moves we will take the stress of your London house removal away, leaving you happy in the knowledge that at least that area of things is being taken care of professionally and efficiently.
As part of our commitment to making your home move much less stressful, we have put together the following free Moving Advice Guide which is packed full of useful hints and tips on things you can be doing to plan ahead once you have exchanged contracts.
- Let London Moves know your confirmed moving date and let us know about things like parking restrictions and property access so that we can plan ahead.
- Contact utilities providers including water, gas, electricity, television and telephone and internet services to advise them of your move and to arrange services in your new property.
- Contact your current buildings and contents insurance provider to switch cover to your new property and ensure you are covered on the day of the move.
- Obtain a form from the Post Office or visit www.royalmail.com to arrange the re-direction of your mail.
- Advise the Local Authority of your move and arrange your new Council Tax payments
- Make a list of everyone that will need your new address including friends and family, your credit and store card providers, banks and building societies, employer, HMRC, accountant, roadside assistance company e.g. RAC or AA and mobile telephone provider
- Contact the DVLA and arrange to have your vehicle log book and driving licence updated.
- Get in touch with your vehicle insurance company and ask them to update your policy as of your moving date
- Settle any outstanding bills for your newspaper deliveries, window cleaner, milkman, and any other local providers
- Ask someone to look after any children or pets on moving day
- If you are not using the professional packing service from London Moves then make a start on packing your smaller items
- Put together a ‘moving day pack’ which might include cleaning materials; water; tea, coffee, sugar; milk and biscuits; a travel kettle; loo paper; important telephone numbers and some cash.
